The dust had just settled on Europe’s Ryder Cup victory over the United States on Sunday when Rory McIlroy set his sights on New York and winning the 2025 edition in hostile territory.
After suffering a crushing 19-9 defeat at Whistling Straits two years ago, Europe restored its glory with a 16-1/2 to 11-1/2 victory at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, giving the US a victory over the Europeans. Was deprived of. Soil since 1993.
The European defeat in 2021 has left McIlroy in tears and the Northern Irishman shed more tears on Sunday, although this time for more pleasant reasons. And he predicted more happiness for Europe in Bethpage Black in two years’ time.
“So I’ve said this for the last probably six or seven years to anybody that will listen,” McIlroy said. “I think one of the greatest accomplishments in golf right now is winning the Ryder Cup.

McIlroy paid tribute to the young players on Team Europe and said they have a bright future at the biennial team competition.
“I know I don’t have that many left,” the 34-year-old player said.
“Seeing guys like Ludwig (Aberg) come here and be an absolute stud and take everything in stride, I wish I was in his position again, looking forward to playing in 15 or 20 Ryder Cups or whatever it is that I am going to play.
“But all the new players that came in this year, everything, they’ve been absolutely amazing, and I’m very proud to be a part of this team. It’s, it’s very, very meaningful.”
Captain Luke Donald said that they will fight the Americans in 2025.
“A lot of people didn’t give us a chance after Whistling Straits. We were big underdogs. We’ve started to show some form in the last six months and I couldn’t be happier with the team I’ve got,” Donald said. “
“I think these guys are going to be around for a long time, and we’re going to have a big fight in two years.”
