The plenary session is mandatory to complete the motion of ratifying the recent election of Mallikarjun Kharge as the party’s president, besides deciding the course, whether through election or full-nomination, of constituting the Congress Working Committee.
Kharge has called a meeting of the party’s ‘steering committee’ (the caretaker CWC) on December 4 – the first since he assumed charge of Congress – to discuss the issue of holding the steering committee.
The budget session recess period is likely to coincide with the Rahul Gandhi-led ‘Bharat Joda Yatra’ concluding its journey to Srinagar.
“The meeting of the steering committee is scheduled to be held on Sunday, December 4, at 10 am at the AICC office… Kharge will preside over the meeting,” said an internal circular from AICC general secretary (org) KC Venugopal to all members of the steering committee.
The national capital and Congress-ruled Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are among the venues being considered for the session, as per people in the know.
