Key events

Thank you for joining me this evening for a cracking Champions League match! Ingle and Cuthbert’s strikes were the difference in a closely contested match. For all the action read Suzy Wrack’s report below. The tournament continues tomorrow and you can join me for Juventus v Arsenal. There’s an 8pm GMT kick-off for that with the blog starting at 7. But for now have a good evening!

Here are the two goal scorers, Cuthbert says they will “rest and recover” and they can’t wait for the next game.

It was a sizzling match full of chances and sets up a great future rivalry between the two clubs. Remember it was the first time the two had met today, their next meeting is not too far away either with Chelsea travelling to Real Madrid on 8 December.

And here is the opener from Sophie Ingle:

The other match which took place at the same time as Chelsea v Real Madrid was Roma v Wolfsburg. I brought you the 1-1 half-time score and it remained the same come full-time. The highest scoring match of the day came with PSG’s 5-0 win over Vllaznia and St Polten beat Slavia Praha 1-0.

Take a look at Erin Cuthbert’s absolute screamer of a strike:

Bright and Eriksson embrace at the end of that one. It is worth noting Real Madrid have only been a team for a few seasons but it’s clear Chelsea knew the challenge that presented them by their celebrations at full-time.

Full-time: Chelsea 2-0 Real Madrid

Real Madrid were able to silence the Chelsea threat in the first half but in the second 45 Ingle’s shot from a corner and Cuthbert’s worldie broke the Spanish team down. Real have lost their second match of the season and Chelsea continue on their unbeaten run from three group games in the Champions League.

90 min: Real do manage to get it by the box but Buchanan closes the chances down. A shot does come for Robles but Berger collects. There will be three minutes added.

90 min: Chelsea are looking to run down the clock now, taking their time on the ball and boxing Real out of this game. James concedes a throw in but Real will have to do a lot to make this a chance.

88 min: Chelsea do well to defend the throw and the hosts are the ones in possession again. James makes a great run and lays it off to Charles whose shot hits the side netting.

86 min: Kerr wins another corner for Chelsea and Cuthbert is the taker again. The ball looked destined for Ingle but she fell to the ground, the referee gives it Real’s way. Here come the visitors but Chelsea clear, Charles does well to guide it our for a throw and not a corner. Real make another change as Zornoza is off for Toletti. Gonzalez is also off for Moller.

84 min: Eriksson takes it and Chelsea are happy to run it back to halfway. Ingle comes through but the resulting shot is collected by Misa. Poor defensive play from Real sees James have it back on the edge of the box. She crosses in and Kathellen needed to clear off the line! Jeez, Real are not doing themselves any favours.

82 min: Real are making two more changes Olofsson is off for Rosio and Olga is off for N Garcia. Kerr once again pressures Misa with slow back play and Eriksson wins a throw in.

80 min: Chelsea makes another change as Reiten is off for Carter. Real are in possession but you could say the game is gone for them now, unless they can produce some brilliance in the last ten.

78 min: Chelsea on the ball again now as they look to bury this game. James passes to Charles and her cross almost reaches Fleming, Robles does great work to head out. The hosts have a corner. Cuthbert hits in but Kerr heads wide.

76 min: My mouth is literally open! Cuthbert crosses the ball in but it just keeps going into the top corner. She may not have been aiming for it but blimey!

GOAL! Chelsea 2-0 Real Madrid (Cuthbert, 75′)

Oh my word what a screamer!

75 min: Real have come to life since conceding, they have everything to lose now and are taking more risks. Robles gets a great ball in but Esther can’t get good contact. Cuthbert is down once again holding her head after her latest defensive effort but she is okay to continue – potentially should take her off as that’s the second time she has hit her head now.

72 min: Weir takes the free kick and it is a good cross but it doesn’t meet her teammates. Kerr runs the ball out while trying to hack it away but Chelsea eventually clear their lines. Ingle this time gives away another free kick and Weir is once again the taker. It’s slightly clunky but Chelsea defend well enough for now.

70 min: The goal has made the crowd come to life, the chants and signing is in full roar! Real have reacted well to conceding though, they are patient on the ball and they win a free kick as James gets a yellow for a foul on Svava.

68 min: Cuthbert took the corner, Bright got a touch to it and it came to Ingle’s head which slotted in the bottom left corner. A great moment for the Welsh international!

GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Real Madrid (Ingle, 67′)

Yes they can!

67 min: The pace of the game has slowed down and Chelsea are playing out from the back. The patience from both teams on the ball is good but neither have been able to find that last clinical touch. Chelsea win yet another corner, can they finally use it to their advantage?

65 min: Possession is exchanging hands quickly but Chelsea win a throw in a good place, it comes into the box but it’s cleared. A goal doesn’t feel inevitable at the moment.

63 min: Real are retaining possession but they have been forced back into their own half. Chelsea wrestle it back and Cuthbert puts in a good pass to Reiten. The ball pings around the team once more and they lose it with a pass to Reiten loose. Real make their first change as Feller comes off for Svava.

61 min: James has a good battle with Weir in the midfield and she wins possession. It runs through the team and it comes to Reiten who boots it into the box. Misa collects but Kerr was close to heading that home.

59 min: Eriksson did stay on the floor but she is okay to continue. The captain takes the free kick from the foul and she takes it short as they look to move up to strike. Cuthbert crosses but it has too much on it and it’s out of play.

57 min: Cutbert’s attempt in the box is frantically cleared by Real. Chelsea make some changes with James and Fleming are on for Kirby and Kaneryd. There is a huge cheer for James as she enters the pitch. There is a yellow card for Esther as Eriksson is challenged.

55 min: Olga gets a touch in the box but Bright clears, Real have another attacking opportunity with Feller’s shot straight at Berger. Chelsea are slowly moving up the field here, they will need to strike soon.

53 min: As soon as I say one club has possession the other take it back! There is risky defending from Berger who punches a Feller cross away but not too far away. The resulting shot goes out for a corner, Berger punches again and Real come forward once more! Bright has to head away another chance but the visitors are building from their own half again.

51 min: Kerr pressures Misa and it works as the keeper is forced to boot it away and concedes a throw in. It comes to Buchanan who is building from deep but Kaneryd runs it out of play. Chelsea quickly win it back

49 min: Real build for a while but Robles’ pass to Feller goes out of play. Kerr has some good footwork and sets up Chelsea’s latest attack. Reiten wins another corner and surely this time they will take some time on it. Cuthbert takes it and it is bundled out of the box, the hosts have had more opportunity but no goal … yet.

47 min: Reiten has not been replaced at half-time and no changes have been made from either side. Chelsea have an early corner and they take it quickly, Cuthbert thunders it in but again Misa collects.

Back underway! Chelsea 0-0 Real Madrid

So will we see a goal in this second half? Or is this first meeting between the clubs destined for a 0-0 deadlock? We will soon find out …

The other match happening right now between Roma and Wolfsburg has seen some goals with the half-time score 1-1. Roma opened the scoring through Giacinti but Pajor found an equaliser.

Kerr was able to walk off the pitch on her own accord which is good to see, even taking a light jog into the changing room so she should be okay to continue in this clash.

Half-time: Chelsea 0-0 Real Madrid

There is the whistle! But Kerr is remaining on the floor after a foul, hopefully the striker is okay. She is not happy here. No goals yet and there could be more injury worry for Chelsea as Kerr and Reiten have taken hits.

45 + 5 min: It comes in but Bright clears it, the half-time whistle can’t be too far away now.

45 + 4 min: It looks like an ankle issue for Reiten, she is back on her feet but she is not happy on the side of the pitch. She is back on the pitch, I wouldn’t be surprised if she comes off at half-time though. Real win a corner through Olga, can they score?

45 + 2 min: Feller has the ball on the edge of the box but Eriksson does well to block the cross. Reiten is now down, she has hurt herself in that latest defensive effort.

45 min: There will be three minutes added.

45 min: Chelsea have a throw in in a good position and it could be there final chance to break the deadlock, Real intercept it though and surely this half’s chances are gone.

43 min: The kick comes in and it seems to have missed everyone but Bright looks to have had a scuffed shot which is off target. Kaneryd in a great position slips in the box and Chelsea were so close to finding an opener!

41 min: Charles’ throw in meets Kerr’s head but the touch has too much on it and it’s out for a goal kick. Chelsea win a corner in their latest attack. Sarina Wiegman is in the crowd tonight too.

39 min: Cuthbert is back on her feet and it looks as though she is okay to continue.

37 min: The word to describe this half of football is frantic. The game has another breather as Cuthbert is down once more, this time it looks like she has clashed heads with a Real player. Her head is in her heads on the ground, hopefully she is okay.

36 min: Real are opening up the Chelsea defence and it comes from Weir. Real players were screaming for a free kick on the edge of the box after Bright wins the ball back but the referee plays on. Cuthbert looks injured here after Zornoza fouls her but the Scotland international is okay to continue.
