A month ahead of its release, Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro has already seen Avatar: The Way of Water, his good friend James Cameron’s hotly anticipated sequel to the 2009 film. Now he is sharing his first-ever reactions on the film. (Also read: Avatar 4 and 5 may be scrapped if The Way of Water flops, says James Cameron: ‘It’s a different world now’)

Producer Jon Landau took to Twitter and announced on November 24 that work on Avatar: The Way of Water is finally complete, with the conclusion of the final mix and picture mastering process. “I am thankful to every one of you for your contributions to the film.” he said. Director Guillermo del Toro reacted to Jon’s announcement and tweeted, “A staggering achievement- AVATAR TWOW is chokefull of majestic Vistas and emotions at an epic, epic scale. A master at the peak of his powers…”

Fans were quick to notice the positive reaction to the film and took to Twitter to gush about the fact that this is also the first-ever review the James Cameron sequel has received. Such a positive review coming from none other than Guillermo del Toro himself, it cannot be any better. The director behind films like Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water and Nightmare Alley, whose stop-motion version of Pinocchio is all set to release early next month, is considered one of the greatest visual storytellers of his generation.

A user reacted, “From The Shape of Water (one of my favorites films) to The Way of Water (the 1st Avatar being another of my fave films)! Both you & James Cameron are master filmmakers & true artists. The 2022 Holiday season will be a great one for cinema — your Pinocchio & his new Avatar!” Another user reacted, “Real recognizes real!” “The ultimate seal of approval,” said a user.

20th Century Studios India will release Avatar: The Way of Water in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam on December 16, 2022.
