Britain’s richest man is set to complete his purchase of a 25 per cent stake in the Premier League club this week, with the £1.3billion deal securing him control of sporting matters.

Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group already have extensive experience taking over sports teams, notably Ligue 1 side Nice – one of only three clubs in Europe’s top five leagues who are still unbeaten this season.

Now, one of the French club’s key figures – manager Francesco Farioli – has unpacked what it is like to work under the 71-year-old and the day-to-day responsibilities that the two hold.

‘I like to listen to the feedback I receive because it’s good to have different perspectives and different input. Afterwards, I have freedom in the decisions on the pitch,’ he told The Telegraph.

‘In other things, a bit more for the medium and long term, there is always an open door. We share our opinions and we have periodic, day-by-day or weekly conversations.

‘But also with the club, we have a monthly review of everything with all the parts involved – about the strategy, about the present and also about the future.’

Farioli was hired from Turkish side Alanyaspor after guiding them to fifth in his only full season in charge of the Super Lig side.

The 34-year-old revealed he went through an arduous, five-hour-long interview process and only met with Ratcliffe for the first time having already taken the job.

Despite that, his first impressions of the Ineos CEO were hugely positive.

‘I met Jim Ratcliffe a few days after [taking the job] because he was very busy,’ the 34-year-old noted.

‘But from his side, the first time we met, the feeling he transferred to me, it was really like the feeling of somebody that was really aware of many things. I felt already known before knowing him. It was a really warm welcome.’
