Call it serendipity, but last week, I wrote a piece talking about the allure of Curran’s sweater. There’s a scene in Basic Instinct in which Curran wears this garment on his naked barrel chest to a pulsating club in search of Tramell. In a clothed and yet still somehow NSFW scene, he lets himself be seduced by Tramell right on the dance floor, who then lifts—or fans out her hands and “spreads”—the V-neck off of Curran’s body. Who knew such a knit could be so erotic? A few scenes later, Curran is buttoned up and at his 9-to-5 cop job, wearing a collared shirt with his sweater. Buttoned up or not, who cares? He still makes it sexy.
Fast forward 30 years, Douglas can still rock a V-neck. I can’t take my eyes off of him. The boldness and brashness of a detested, debated silhouette still looks good on the man. He might as well still be Curran in the club.
