Gulshan Devaiah on his experience in Mannat
Gulshan, who was unsure whether he would be able to join the party, said: “I met him once, went to his house, spent three excruciating hours because at that time I I was very uncomfortable. The first years. I was super nervous. There were so many other people there too. There was a party at his house and I was like, “What am I doing here?” I don’t deserve to be here. I’m just here because I’m friends with other people who are here.
Inside Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat
“Lots of things. There’s a big marble statue of Radha Krishna, I think. It was quite beautiful. Big dining table with lots of lights on the floor. I didn’t see the whole house because we were only in the area where they entertain the guests, which is quite a large area. It goes from the side and joins the main Mannat, the old building. But the current residential area is the Mannat Annex, which is the building at the back,” he explained, describing Mannat’s interiors.
Gulshan also added that the old building has been preserved through heritage property regulations. In fact, he also added that Mannat’s famous ‘main gate’, which has become the popular selfie spot for fans, is ‘just for show’. He said the actual entry was through the back door.
When Shah Rukh Khan bought Mannat
Mannat was renovated by Gauri Khan when she and Shah Rukh bought it during his early years in Bollywood. Talking about how they moved into the bungalow, Shah Rukh shared at an event, “We lived in a house next to Taj, which was my director’s house. “We were making movies. We didn’t have a lot of money.”
It was way beyond (our budget). But we managed to buy (Mannat) which was worth it. It was quite run down, a bit broken and we had no money to furnish it. Of course, we hired a designer. The lunch he served us and explained how he designed the house was more than the salary I made in a month. We said to ourselves: this guy is going to charge a lot. So how do we do this house now, we bought it but what do we do with it.
He said he then turned to Gauri and asked her to do the house as she was the one with “artistic talent”. The couple then purchased items for the home over time and made it their paradise that we see today. “Once we were low on money, we bought leather and fur sofas,” he said. Shah Rukh and Gauri are currently rejoicing over the success of his film Jawan. Directed by Atlee, the film is backed by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment, while Gaurav Verma is also a co-producer.
