Someone call Christopher Nolan, because even Hollywood directors are now asked how often they think about the Roman Empire

Social media trends can be quite unpredictable and, honestly, strange. The most recent trend, initially popularized on TikTok, revolves around women asking men: How often do you think about the Roman Empire? Surprisingly, with the exception of men, many responded saying they meditated on ancient civilization daily or several times a week. What’s even more surprising is that even Hollywood heavyweights are joining in. One of these fixtures is none other than renowned Godfather trilogy director Francis Ford Coppola, and his answer will perhaps not shock those who know his work. Now someone call Christopher Nolan, because I need to know his answer.

The iconic filmmaker behind one of most realistic war films, Apocalypse now, willingly joined the trend, asking the question and giving his opinion via Instagram. As the 84-year-old director explains, he thinks quite often and for good reason about the Republic which has long since disappeared. He wrote:

How often do I think about ancient Rome? A lot, because the Roman Republic served as an example for my country, America and its institutions, and inspired my next film, Megalopolis film.

Francis Ford Coppola’s response hints at a deep connection between the appeal of the Roman Empire and its lasting impact on American culture and cinema. The democratic ideals and political structure of the Roman Republic served as a source of inspiration for the United States, which is visibly reflected in its governmental systems and architectural designs. However, Coppola’s curiosity goes even further, as he explains:

My fascination with the Roman Republic is based on the struggle between political parties in which the interests of the Republic gave way to the ambitions of a few powerful men who espoused the goals of the political parties to establish their own fortunes and authority in s relying on the armed forces. to achieve these objectives, delivering the final blow to a constitution already threatened with collapse.

We certainly should have expected such a cerebral response from one of the world’s most renowned filmmakers. While his words give fans a lot to chew on, I’d still like to hear what Christopher Nolan thinks about the empire. It goes without saying that Oppenheimer Helmer is also one of the greatest minds in the world of cinema, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he had some interesting thoughts to share as well. So please, someone will ask him in an interview very soon.

As for the details of Francis Ford Coppola’s latest feature film, they are being deliberately kept secret. Again what we know Megalopolis it features an impressive cast that includes renowned actors like Adam Driver and Aubrey Plaza. But the exciting news doesn’t stop there. In August 2022, it was reported that the ensemble would include Shia LaBeouf (who was notably later seen in Greek goddess outfit), Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Grace VanderWaal, Kathryn Hunter and James Remar.

THE Dracula by Bram Stoker The director intriguingly described the epic sci-fi drama spanning decades like an enigmatic piece that escapes simple classification. It is worth noting that the Oscar winner had apparently stopped making films, as he had been absent from the film scene for over a decade. His return should therefore be a highly anticipated event for many movie fans. With all of this in mind, the question that naturally arises is: what connection does the Roman Empire have in the context of this mysterious project?

Anticipate further updates and news on Megalopolis at some point in the near future. In the meantime, I’ll think about what other filmmakers and Hollywood stars should be asked about the Roman Empire. Michael Bay would probably provide a tough answer but, again, let’s hope Christopher Nolan is asked soon.
