A single-car crash on near Tākaka has closed a state highway, pulled down power lines and left the car ablaze.
Emergency services were called to Tākaka Valley Rd, between Central Tākaka and Hamama roads, at about 7.45pm after receiving reports of a crash, a police spokesperson said.
The police spokesperson said no one was injured, but the power lines were pulled down and the car was on fire at the scene.
Fire and Emergency Southern shift manager Daniel Reilly said no one was in the car when firefighters arrived.

“The car was on fire when the fire brigade arrived, no one was trapped inside the vehicle, so we got to work making the scene safe primary with that power pole that was involved.”
State Highway 60 was closed between Central Takaka Road and East Takaka Road, information on the Waka Kotahi website showed.
“A detour is in place. Please follow the detour and allow an extra time for travel.”
Network Tasman’s website showed a power outage in the Takaka Valley, Hamama Rd Waingaro Rd area from 8.11pm. As of 10pm there was no update.
