Thomas Rhett’s wife Lauren Akins is sharing the impact The Little Mermaid movie had on her children.
The 33-year-old author took to Instagram to share her daughters’ tear-jerking reaction after watching the new live-action film for the first time, specifically honing in on why representation matters.
The post shared on Tuesday, June 6 included a photo of Akins and Rhett with their three girls—Willa Gray, 7, Ada James, 5, and Lennon Love, 3. Akins stood behind Willa who shot the camera a huge smile, while Ada and Lennon held onto their Little Mermaid dolls as they posed for the picture in front of a large movie poster.
“The Little Mermaid with my favorite mermaids 🧜🏾♀️🦀🍿,” Akins began in the caption, setting the scene.
She noted that Ada and Lennon were excited that Ariel looked just like their older sister, writing, “Getting to see the girls’ excitement that “the real” Ariel looks like their sister just turned my heart into a giant puddle 🤎🥰😭 pure magic✨@disneylittlemermaid @hallebailey“

For the magical movie event, Akins rocked a light pink jumpsuit while Willa wore a purple floral romper. Ada donned a white t-shirt with red floral shorts and Lennon opted for a mustard yellow romper. Rhett kept it casual with a white long-sleeve button-up and off-white shorts with flip flops and a ball cap.
Many fans took to the comments, pointing out the importance behind Halle Bailey‘s portrayal of Ariel in the film and why it’s crucial for a woman of color to play the part.
“THIS is why representation matters! What a beautiful moment for your daughters and your family. Willa Gray is a real life princess!” one user wrote.
“Absolutely, representation matters. So very lovely, continued blessings🙏🏽,” another fan shared.
“Not me crying over the caption 😭 representation is so important,” a third fan wrote.
