The woman who filmed the viral moment of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, hugging a teen girl outside Windsor Castle has hit back at people and media outlets claiming the moment was staged.

Isabelle Charters, 24, posted a video clarifying the context behind the viral video she posted of the sweet moment.

“I have actually lived in Windsor my whole life. I was out that day in Windsor with my dad, my brother and my boyfriend,” she explained in the TikTok.

“The girl who ended up hugging Meghan, I have never met in my life. I have no relationship with this girl, I am not associated with her. We were purely next to each other by chance in the crowd. We were total strangers.

“We did end up bonding over the fact that we were both really excited to see Meghan. I think out of the people around us, we were the two that were the most excited about it,” Charters added.

The girl who Meghan hugged, Amelka Zak, has also spoken about the experience.

“We were just waiting for her to come and she came near me and asked my name and how my day was, how long I was waiting. And I asked her if I could have a hug, and she hugged me back. It was quite an amazing moment. I’m still shaking now,” the 14-year-old told CNN shortly after meeting the duchess.

“It was quite nice to see William and Kate and Meghan and Harry together. And it was fine, but I just wanted to like show her that she’s, like, welcome here, I guess. And wanted to hug her after everything that’s happened, really, now,” she concluded.

Charters then addressed claims that she was planted by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s PR team and paid to manufacture the moment.

One Twitter user even went as far as to claim that Meghan had previously met the woman at the Invictus Games, which Charters says is “crazy” as the two women pictured look nothing alike.

“I have seen videos and articles saying that I am this girl’s mother, saying that Meghan’s PR team paid for me to be there, I was planted in that spot, that I knew Meghan from before from the Invictus Games…the logic is not there,” said Charters.

“So ultimately I wanted to show that the experience and interaction we had with Meghan was really lovely and genuine and she was so kind to us. Even though it was short it was really sweet,” she relayed.

Charters then also gave some advice to her audience. “Don’t believe everything you read online guys, there’s so many fake stories. People try so hard to put her down and to sell fake things, and you need to go off your own personal experiences to really make a judgement on someone,” she said.

“And if I’m honest, this experience just made me love her even more.”
