The Constitution (128th Amendment) Bill is slated for consideration and passage in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. It is likely to be taken up in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. After the passage of the bill by both Houses of Parliament, one half of the state legislatures have to approve the bill.
The implementation of the exercise can start only after the completion of the census exercise. After the census, delimitation will be conducted and then constituencies for women candidates will be selected. With the opposition and fences like BJD, BRS and YSRCP set to support this bill, it is likely to be passed with a two-thirds majority in both the Houses and state legislatures.
