Andy Cohen Jokes He Still Plans to Drink for NYE Show on CNN

Andy Cohen previously joked about still getting sloshed during this years CNN New Years Eve Broadcast.

The Watch What Happens Live host and his NYE special co-host and best friend, Anderson Cooper, 55, are notorious for getting a little juiced-up while appearing live on television to ring in the new year—but this year might look a little different.

Despite CNN reportedly banning alcohol for this year’s broadcast, Cohen seemingly wasn’t letting that stop him from imbibing this New Year’s Eve, because according to the host, the network only said that the “correspondents will not be drinking,” per an interview with Rolling Stone that was published on Dec. 28, 2022.

“Anderson and I will be the people partying on CNN, [though] we will be partying responsibly,” Cohen told the outlet. 

“My job is to take Anderson out of his comfort zone [and] my job is to be a party ringleader for everyone watching us on New Year’s Eve,” he explained. “And that is what I will continue to do. And as a matter of fact, If the correspondents are not drinking this year, I will be partying even harder on their behalf.”

Despite his claims on partying even harder, Cohen clarified with Page Six that he will in fact not be drinking this year, stating, “We aren’t drinking, but we’re going to have a BLAST.”

Ryan Seacrest also opened up about his fellow NYE special hosts drinking on live television. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly that was published this week, Seacrest said, “I don’t advocate drinking when one is on the air. I don’t know how that started as a tradition, but it’s probably a good idea [to scale back], CNN.”

“There’s some pretty respectable people or at least one, right? I think there’s a serious journalist and then a friend of mine who has a lot of fun, but it’s probably a good idea.”

Seacrest continued: “Although the viewers probably wish they would drink more. But I think they had something to say about my show at one point, which was I’m sure from the alcohol because I don’t think they would say what they said about our performers if they weren’t drinking. But, you know, I think our show’s a bigger, broader show and we will not drink until 1:05 in the morning.”

“Although, I might send them some Casa Dragones Tequila just to tempt them while they’re on the air,” he quipped.
