‘Four dead as soldier shoots ex-girlfriend, her child, her new boyfriend and her mother’ in Germany family gun massacre

A soldier in Germany is accused of killing four people, including a child, in a house last night.
The victims reportedly include his ex-girlfriend, her child, her new boyfriend and her boyfriend’s mother.
The incident occurred at 3:30 in the morning.
Multiple police forces were called to Schiesel in the Rotenberg district following reports of shooting and a helicopter was used to search for the attacker from above.

The soldier’s age and motive are not yet known, although police have said they do not rule out ‘a motive in the family environment’.
Police spokesman Heiner van der Werp told Bild that the incident was a ‘family affair’.
He also said: ‘Whatever was available was in use.’ These include forces from the Lower Saxony State Police and the Federal Police.
The police presence continued throughout the night and into the morning, with Rotenberg train station and houses surrounded.
Then, as the morning dawned, police say the suspect turned himself in.
The constable’s car was found parked outside the barrack and the police had surrounded it.
When the police searched the car, a Molotov cocktail was found in its side compartment.

The culprit is said to be a Bundeswehr (German Army) soldier and has been arrested.

It is still unknown whether the suspect’s weapon came from the possession of the Bundeswehr.
Shots were also fired today in the Lower Saxony community of Bothel, reportedly by an active Bundeswehr soldier.

“A motive cannot be ruled out in a family-related situation,” the police press release said.
One of the major military units of the Von Düring Barracks, for which Schurter may have served, is the Jägertruppe.
Jägertruppe is a group within the army specifically trained in urban warfare – such as towns – places where tanks cannot reach.
They are trained with light weapons to fight enemy infantry.
