Four men charged over alleged murder of Sydney teen Omar Elomar

Four men have been charged over the alleged murder of teenager Omar Elomar on a Sydney street two years ago.

The four men, aged between 20 and 25, were arrested simultaneously in police raids just before 6am.

The men were arrested in homes in Bonnyrigg, Macquarie Fields and Gregory Hills in south-west Sydney, and in the country NSW town of Orange.

All four were charged with murder and refused bail today. They will all appear in court tomorrow.

“We believe we have a strong brief of evidence to charge them with murder,” homicide squad Commander Danny Doherty said on Thursday.

Doherty said police are working on the theory that the killing was the result of a social media argument between two other teenagers escalating.

“What started off as basically a schoolboy fight” between two younger teens resulted in Omar being “dragged out of the car and shot dead” a day later, he alleged.

Elomar was shot on Cabramatta Avenue in Miller on a Saturday night in February 2020.

Despite paramedic efforts to save him, he died at the scene.

An 18-year-old was charged over his alleged involvement in the death but has since been acquitted.

Detectives from the state crime command’s homicide squad have been investigating the alleged murder for two years.
