West Java: West Java voters’ wish list for Indonesia’s next president includes a stable economy, more job opportunities and equal treatment of citizens.
Imam Iskandar, a resident, said, “The leader I want is one who is aware of these three things: awareness of the situation, awareness of the conditions and awareness of the situation.”
West Java, Indonesia’s most populous province, is often among political parties’ top priorities in campaigning for votes.
It is home to about 50 million people and has the highest number of registered voters at 36 million, making it a key battleground for Wednesday’s (February 14) elections.
The province is also unique in its high plurality of support for parties, observers told CNA.
West Java generally gives candidates the opportunity to increase the number of votes they had previously lost, or consolidate victories where they may have a stronger support base.
