Kate Moss is one of Britain’s best-known blondes, but she famously flirted with pink hair in the 1990s. The supermodel agreed to dye her hair fluoro pink to walk in Versace’s spring 1999 show. In 1998, Juergen Teller photographed Kate in bed, pink hair spread out on her pillow, and called the shot “Young Pink Kate.” The picture has been ubiquitous on Instagram more than 20 years on.
In an interview with Nick Knight for ShowStudio in 2014, Kate revealed that she only had the hair color for a week. “[It’s] so sad, because this picture is when it started looking good,” she told Knight of having to go back to brunette at the request of Calvin Klein, with whom she was working regularly at the time. Now, decades on from that iconic switch-up, Kate has revived her pink hair for Marc Jacobs’s Resort 2022/2023 campaign.
Images shot by Harley Weir and styled by Danielle Emerson show the ageless Kate with straight pink hair that evokes that legendary Versace transformation. In the pictures, she wears Jacobs’s signature sky-high Kiki boots and models two of the designer’s classic bags: the bucket pouch and a salmon-pink J Marc shoulder bag. The moment marks 22 years since Moss first appeared in a Marc Jacobs campaign for autumn 2000, affirming her role as a longtime brand collaborator, supporter, and friend.
The woman behind Moss’s celebrated blonde hair, Nicola Clarke, previously told Vogue that she “really works with her natural color” in order to achieve the supermodel’s signature shade. “She goes away quite a lot, and it becomes sun-kissed, and I just enhance that,” she said.
