Patil was suspended from the Rajya Sabha on February 10 for videotaping the proceedings of the House a day earlier, leading to its widespread circulation on social media platforms. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar took disciplinary action against the MP on a complaint made by the BJP.
Minutes before the House adjourned after the Budget session, Dhankhar announced that Patil’s suspension had been extended beyond that session. This is after taking inputs from the privileges committee, which is investigating the matter, he said. Now with the government and opposition engaged in dialogue to end a logjam in Parliament on a debate in Manipur, Patil’s suspension has also come up for discussion, sources said.
