‘This is gonna kill you guys when you find out’: Brain teaser hilariously stumps women

Two women have been left stumped by a brain teaser presented to them in a TikTok video.
In the video the women, who live in the US, are handed a brain teaser written colourfully on a single sheet of paper, challenging them to find the mistake.
Written on the piece of paper are the numbers written from one to nine.
They immediately begin examining the brain teaser but find themselves unable to spot the mistake and they are not alone, with many of the 2.5 million people who later watched the video admitting they couldn’t find it either.

The man who handed them the brain teaser chuckles affectionately as they struggle to figure out the brain teaser.
At first the women focus on the numbers, counting them out loud to ensure they are in sequence.

Next they look closely at the word “mistake” which is written in capitals in much larger and bolder writing than the rest of the letters.
“That’s how you spell mistake, right?” one asks the man filming their frustrating experience.
Next they read out all the words slowly, including the numbers.
“Is it something to do with the colours?” they wonder, focusing on the pattern of colours used.
The man offers to give them a “hint” but they both decline, determined to figure it out for themselves.
“This is gonna kill you guys when you find out,” he says.
They never figure out the brain teaser and TikTokers were left equally frustrated by the experience.
“It’s so funny how the brain automatically corrects for stuff like this! Found it but definitely took me a bit,” one commented.
“The fact I didn’t figure it out and had to read the comments,” another said.
“Took me longer than I’d like to admit, I’m tired,” added one TikToker.
“OMG I need to focus more,” another said.
The “mistake” is the use of the word “the” twice and the brain is so focused on the bold letters that make up the word “mistake” and the colourful numbers it struggles to see this.
Some TikTokers were able to spot it quickly.
“How did anyone miss this?” one questioned.
“Wow, people have lost the power to see the obvious. says a lot about society today,” one said.
