The US issued a warning for American citizens in Moscow to avoid large gatherings, including concerts in the next 48 hours, saying it was monitoring reports of “imminent plans” by extremists to target large gatherings.
The alert is posted on the website of the US embassy in Moscow Thursday afternoon, with the State Department issuing its own warning to X about the same time.
Officials urge people to avoid crowds, monitor local media for updates and be aware of their surroundings.
Americans already Advised not to travel to Russia, with the US currently listing the country as a level 4 risk due to what it calls the “unintended consequences” of its invasion of Ukraine, as well as the potential for harassment and “isolation” of US citizens for the detention of security officials. Citizens living or traveling there were also urged to leave immediately.

US citizens are advised to contact the embassy in Moscow if they have concerns and to contact the State Department’s consular affairs for assistance.
However, the US is not the only one advising caution with the United Kingdom also advising on its website of the warning, advising British nationals to also avoid all travel to Russia.
Canada also does not have a travel advisory for the country, although as of publication Global News has not yet received a response from Global Affairs Canada on whether it will issue an alert similar to the US.
