Patrice Evra has made his prediction for the World Cup quarter-final between England and France and revealed how he will celebrate if the Three Lions are knocked out in Qatar.
World Cup holders France face Euro 2020 runners-up England on Saturday for a place in the semi-finals.
Gareth Southgate’s side, who finished fourth at the 2018 World Cup, topped Group B in Qatar before proving too strong for African champions Senegal in the last-16.
France, meanwhile, finished top of Group D before a routine 3-1 win over Poland sent Didier Deschamps’ side into the quarter-finals.
Evra is ‘confident’ France will continue their World Cup defence against England and believes PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe will be the hero at the Al Bayt Stadium.
The former France and Manchester United defender has even revealed his plan to mock England if his prediction comes to pass.
‘I feel confident, but not arrogant. I’m happy with what France are doing right now, but I’m also happy with what England are doing right now,’ Evra told Betfair.
‘I think it’s going to be an interesting game, but while I think England will have to worry about players like Kylian Mbappe, France also have to worry about players like Saka and Foden. France have got worries about the England team.
‘You can tell me that Kyle Walker is going to block Mbappe, he did it against Neymar very well in the Champions League, but I know Mbappe will move into the centre and he will come up against John Stones and Harry Maguire, and it will be difficult for them to stop him.
‘It’s a big mix, I feel like France are going to smash England, but England can also beat France, so I’m going into the game confident but I could also be surprised.
‘I can see the game being 2-1 to France. I can see us scoring the first goal, then England getting level.
‘I can see this being another moment for Mbappe to do Mbappe things in the last 10 minutes. I don’t see it going to extra time or penalties. If it does go to penalties, it’s a risk for France.
‘People know how much I love England, I think even some French people think I’ll be supporting them, no, I will support France.
‘But I will never forget my experience in England and it will be good banter. I will make a fun video if France beats England.
‘At the end of the day, it’s a big game and there’s lots of banter. I really thank England for all those great years, but it’s time for you guys to lose. I’ll be eating snails and singing “It’s coming home”, if we beat England!’
Evra, who won five Premier League titles at Old Trafford, made 81 appearances for France between 2004 and 2016.
The former left-back has been impressed by 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, who has been one of England’s key players in Qatar.
‘Bellingham for me, will be, by far, the best midfielder that England have ever had in their national team,’ Evra added.
‘I can’t compare him yet to Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard at club level, because those players were consistent.
‘I want him to play for 10 years at that level, then we can compare and see who’s better. But for the national team, to see how confident he is, it’s unbelievable. What a joy it is to see him play.
‘I’m not surprised, I said to my friends that he’s the player to watch, he’s so mature. He sees everything, in the last game that second goal he was the one that started the play, he got the assist, he’s the key player.
‘If you ask every manager in world football what they want for Christmas, they will be asking Santa for Jude Bellingham.
‘It’s scary he’s only 19. He plays with so much confidence, he reads the game and understands it. He is brilliant.’
