Jake Gyllenhaal tried the combination when he was up for Batman, but I was shocked to learn he was up against Ewan McGregor and Heath Ledger for another role
Hollywood really is a small world. You never know which actors have competed to portray some of the most iconic cinema characters. But every time I learn something new, like this, Jason Statham wanted to play Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders instead of Cillian Murphy or Sebastian Stan wanting the role of Captain America, I’m totally flabbergasted. Now I’m shocked again after Relay actor Jake Gyllenhaal talked about a few films he was considered for with strong competition, including The black Knight and the chance to wear the Batsuit.
Gyllenhaal exuded nothing but positivity, good humor and dedication to his craft while speaking to Howard Stern. When he talked about casting Batman, he understood how serious it was for him, as he had passed all the initial auditions. Surprisingly, he also revealed that he had the same feelings during his audition for the role of Christian in red Mill against Heath Ledger and Ewan McGregor. As he told Stern:
Stern mentioned that not getting those roles must have “shaken” his confidence, but Gyllenhaal admitted that was never the case. In fact, he said that while he was disappointed, he had too much to be proud of to really hold on to the rejections. He explained that:
As he continued, all I could notice was that he was only interested in self-love and celebrating the good things that happened. He became a little more insightful and explained that he took these opportunities to really take pride in his skills, the talent that others saw in him to even be considered and understand that other roles would work. And, honestly, I really understand how much he wants to see the glass half full. He said:
Gyllenhaal still has one Complete resume of fan favorite films it’s more than impressive. He has played a wide range of characters, including Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Homeand Robert Graysmith, a cartoonist obsessed with the famous murderer of Zodiac. And of course I can’t forget Donnie Darko and its iconic cowboy role alongside Ledger In Brokeback Mountain.
Most recently he took on the lead role in the Relay redo, playing Elwood Dalton, a former UFC fighter who ends up working at a bar in Florida. In it, Gyllenhaal is the culmination of a world focused on beautiful beaches and brute force. It received mixed reviews on Rotten Tomatoes so far.
Even though we haven’t seen Jake Gyllenhaal take on Ledger’s Joker or complain about Satine’s love interest, the good news is that his on-screen future seems limitless. There have been constant discussions about it to be the next masked crusader, and although he neither confirmed nor denied, he said it would be an honor. He also stars in another Guy Ritchie action film, in addition to playing Iago in Othello on the scene. So we’re going to see a lot more of him in the next few years, and I’m totally excited about it.
